About Boss Day

"By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be boss and work twelve hours a day." - Robert Frost

Frost aptly described the duties and responsibilities that the bosses take throughout the day. To appreciate their hard work and commitment towards their jobs Patricia Bays Haroski in 1958 first registered National Boss's Day or Boss's Day on October 16th. Since then, it has been a traditional day for the employees to thank their seniors for being fair, kind and understanding.

Haroski was an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois (USA). She was working as a Secretary to her father. To express her gratitude towards him she registered 16th October as the Boss's Day which was which was also his birthday. She was a thoughtful daughter who saw her father to remain the source of motivation towards his employees against all odds. Besides, she hoped that by celebrating this day the relationships between employees and the supervisors will improve.

After four years Otto Kerner, the Governor of Illinois welcomed her idea and officially proclaimed 16th October as the National Boss's Day in 1962. With time it gained popularity and now almost every country celebrate the day to thank their bosses. On this day the employees give their bosses gifts like cards, flowers, chocolates, souvenirs or even arrange special lunch.
